MOTIV is an investor and advisor to mission-driven entrepreneurs, companies and investments firms who are generating greater financial value by putting integrity at the core of their company cultures and business models and maximizing value across all their stakeholders, including their communities, the environment, and future generations. As equity owners in Uprising Ventures, The Cranemere Group, stok Investment Group, Community Investment Management, and Carmenta Management, we take on various roles that include sourcing and evaluating deal flow, building aligned networks of capital and talent, and enhancing strategy and portfolio management. We look at opportunities across resource efficiency, food, ag, water, sustainable real estate, health/wellness, financial inclusion and education.
FOUNDERS
Bill Tarr
Co-Founder, Managing Director
Bill previously co-founded Aquillian Investments, an investment and advisory firm exclusively focused on environmental sustainability, clean technology, and natural resources, which launched the first Ecosystem Integrity Fund. Prior to Aquillian, Bill was a management consultant with Origo Global Business Partners, where he co-developed the Social Enterprise Services division and managed various sustainability projects, and was a Director for New Sector Alliance, managing projects for social enterprises. Bill received his BA from Dartmouth.
Oliver Guinness
Co-Founder, Managing Director (NOT ACTIVE IN NEW ENDEAVORS)
Oliver previously co-founded Clearpoint Ventures, a clean economy venture capital fund, managed energy consulting projects for the Economist Intelligence Unit, consulted for the United Nations Global Compact, built a telecom & training company in South America, directed business development for a Silicon Valley fintech startup, and worked in corporate finance at Merrill Lynch and Greyrock Capital. Oliver has a Masters degree from Columbia, a BA from Cornell, and completed the VC Exec Program at UC Berkeley.
